Happy August 30 Victory Day

On February 11, 1920, without any support from the state, the people of Kahramanmaraş organized themselves into resistance groups and successfully defeated regular enemy armies, reclaiming their city. The Maraş resistance inspired the surrounding regions and, with the support of the Maraş fighters—particularly in Antep and neighboring cities—the area was liberated from enemy occupation.

Under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the national struggle continued across the country, culminating in the Great Offensive, which began on August 26, 1922, and ended victoriously in Dumlupınar on August 30, marking the liberation of our homeland from foreign occupation.

The first-ever celebration of August 30 as a national holiday took place in Kahramanmaraş in 1923.

In May 1935, it was officially declared Victory Day, and since then, it has been celebrated across Turkey every year with various events.

Here are some photos from the celebrations held on Trabzon Boulevard in Kahramanmaraş.
